Things That Are Keeping Me Going

I got my stitches out yesterday. Not that it means anything, cause of the last time I got my stitches out. But to me it means nearing the end. If there ever will be an end. In the meantime I'm on stinky antibiotics (they really do stink) and keepin' the leg up (although, not as much as I should be....oops!).

But I am grateful for all of the good things and people that keep me going each day.

First off, my husband. Seriously....he's the man.
He's awesome and he's doing a great job.

My girls, who "help mommy" all the time.
They're my go-to girls.

The Colour Of Paradise ~ Review

An Iranian film in Farsi with English subtitles.

This movie is about an 8 year old boy named Mohammad, who is blind. The film starts out with seeing him in a school for the blind. When he goes home for the summer you get to see the beautiful relationship he has with his grandmother and his two sisters. As you watch the film you begin to realize that it's not the boy who is blind, but his father who doesn't appreciate his son. His father (who's a widower) thinks Mohammad to be a burden and he's more preoccupied in trying to marry another woman to gain status.

Mohammad was blind, but saw more than I will ever see. I never knew just how blind I truly was, until I saw this film. Words cannot express how I felt about this film, so I just recommend you to see it and give your own judgement.

It was nice to see Iran's country side. I didn't even know they had one. I caught a glimpse of customs, scenery, farmers and the culture of Iran. It was just simply beautiful. I don't even have another word to describe it.

Anyways there was a part in the film that touched me so deeply. It's a part where his father decides it's best for him to go and learn the carpentry trade with another blind man. The carpenter is teaching Mohammad about wood and to feel the different types. Then follows the most beautiful speech I've ever heard from a child.

I watched the movie on Netflix, but I found it on YouTube as well. This part with the speech is about the first 2 minutes.

I'm sure I was emotionally drawn to the movie and the characters, (beacuse I was balling like a baby), but it's still the best scene from the movie.

I hope you all get a chance to see it one day. I give it a 4 1/2 out of 5. If you can get used to the pace of the film and take in what you don't read in dialogue, then I'm sure you will enjoy this, as much as I did.

Outsourced ~ Review

Okay so today I watched a movie that I've been wanting to watch for a while. It's called "Outsourced".

It's about a guy who finds out his job and his part of the company is being outsourced to India. So he has to go to India to train his new replacement, who's managing the call center in a little town outside of Bombay.

This story moves at a good pace and there's never a dull moment. The comedy is brilliant. I had a few "laugh out loud" moments. I loved seeing Indian culture through the eyes of an ignorant American. But I also loved seeing the Indian's understanding of American culture and all of it's craziness. All in all, this was a great movie.

****Mini Spoiler Alert!****

If you don't want to know anything about this movie, then don't read on....

The only part I didn't enjoy much was the "romance" between Todd, the main character, and Asha, one of the call center workers. I loved it and I hated it. I hated it leaving you hanging in the end. I'm the kind of person that likes to see "and they lived happily ever after", and I really hate it when movies leave you wondering about the future for the romantic couple. So that's why I hated it.

****Mini Spoiler Over****

You can safely read now....

But overall I gave it a rating of 4 1/2 out of 5. It was a funny and intriguing film that I think anyone would enjoy.

Suze & Ebert......Minus Ebert

Okay so since I've been stuck with my leg up for the past week or so, it's no secret that I've been watching a plethora of movies lately. Anyone who knows me well, knows I'm not a huge fan of "Hollywood Blockbuster" films. I like them and I'll watch them, but I prefer the movies that are either made for Film Festies, Indies, or Foreign. The ones that are not your typical movies that you'd see at your local multiplex.

Anyways watching all sorts of films lately (mostly alone, mind you), I think to myself that there's got to be something out there like goodreads.com that's for movies. Well I haven't done a search, cause I really don't care, but I thought to myself, "HELLO! You've got a blog silly! Write reviews of your movies there you crazy lady!"

Okay so that really wasn't the internal dialogue I was having with myself....but it came pretty close.

So this post is about two movies I've seen in the past few days that I wanted to share with you. My rating system is simple. 1 is the movie sucked and was highly disappointing and 5 is the best rating, making it a definite MUST SEE by everyone around me. Everything else in between is as I see it.

So that being said I wanted to talk about the movie I saw this morning. It's called "Adam".

The story is about a girl who meets a man and falls in love with him. Your typical love story, except this one has an added tenderness......the man, has Asperger's Syndrome.

The love story was simple and yet, touched my heart so deeply. I was surprised at the ending and balled my eyes out, because of this one song by The Weepies, called "Can't Go Back Now".

This was a really good movie. I knew when I ordered the movie from Netflix that it starred Hugh Dancy, but I couldn't really put my finger on the actor who played Adam, cause he didn't speak with a British accent! It was about 5 minutes into it that I realized it was him. Doye!

Another surprise is that the actress who played Beth is originally from Australia, yet she did a really good job on her American accent.

The actors did a fine job at telling the story and as far as the ending goes, I didn't understand it until I listened to the song over and over again (on YouTube). Then I got it and it made me cry again. Okay I'm an even bigger dork, cause I'm tearing as a write this (still listening to the song)

It's today's favorite. Last week it was Blue Rodeo's "Bad Timing".

Anyways Adam gets 4 1/2 out of 5 from me. Good enough that I think everyone should see it.

Another movie I enjoyed was "Henry Poole Is Here"

It didn't fit the description that Netflix gave it. It marked it as a comedy and it was NOT a comedy. It was most definitely a drama. It was a little slow to begin with, but I gave it more than my standard "10 minutes to see if a movie is going to be worth it", cause it intrigued me.

It stars Luke Wilson. I love films where Hollywood actors take on a not so Hollywood roll or it's not a Hollywood film on a huge budget. I think this is where the actors shine. Well in this particular film, the Luke Wilson, who plays the main character, gets out staged by the other actors and I loved it. I'm not saying I don't like Luke Wilson. I do. But I'm saying that the supporting cast ended up shining in the spotlight probably more than the main character and that's pretty rare in a film.

Anyways this movie is about a guy who finds out he's got a terminal illness and decides to live out the rest of his days, by his miserable self, in the neighborhood that he grew up in. Well a miracle happens and as the story unfolds you see Henry gain a new life thanks to his surrounding neighbors and the faith and hope that they have in this life.

It wasn't the greatest of films, but I give it a 3 1/2 out of 5. I really did enjoy it and I'd watch it again.

Well I hope you've enjoyed my movie reviews. I plan on writing about more shows I've enjoyed in the past as well as new ones I've discovered recently, but until then I hope you'll comment and share with me your favorite non-Hollywood films that you've enjoyed or tell me if you've seen the ones I've shared with you, and share your thoughts about it.

Bloog to you'z lay-tuh!

This One's For Dan!

I really don't have much to say today except I told my husband that I'd write something new on here and since nothing exciting really has happend in the last few days I can't really say much.

Okay wait a sec.............I'm going to be pounced on if I don't say what a great weekend I had. LeManda came down for the weekend and we partied! I reserved the theater on Saturday so what we did was we all went swimming in the afternoon and layed in the sun for a bit to burn to a crisp. Well LeManda was looking pretty dark already so I'm sure they didn't burn. I however NEEDED sunscreen, since I haven't pre-tanned in the tanning beds to build up a base tan (like I have for the last 3 years) so that I don't burn during the summertime. So I asked my husband to slather on the stuff on my back so that I don't get burned. Well, let's just say I know exactly just how much sunscreen works now! My poor husband missed a few spots on my back and now I have a few red welts on my back of where he missed! (poor guy! -He felt SO bad!)

H'Anyways after baking in the sun by the pool we went and watched a movie in the theater. I haven't seen WILLOW since I was a kid and I'd only seen it once. I'd forgotten what a good movie that was! Anyways after that our good friends Jacki and Terence (TAki) came over and joined us for a barbeque. I did it.....and it worked! I mixed friends from other sides and it worked! We all had such a good time and TAki really liked LeManda. After the barbeque we jumped in the pool again and had "Husband/Wife" races. Then after we watched another movie in the theater. This time we watched JAWS. Lee & I had never seen it before. I tell ya for being a movie made "pre-CGI" it looked pretty darn real! It was freakin' me out! I'll never swim in an ocean again! I even had nightmares that night.

Anyways after that we all came back to our place and played a DVD game called Shout Out. For you Canadians it's not pronounced "SHOTE OTE" but pronounced the way it looks, "SHAOUT AOUT". Anyways now that we've had our American pronounciation lesson for the day we shall move on. So h'anyways, this game was awesome! We played girls vs. guys and the women kicked butt! The guys didn't even have a chance. Poor little buggahs. They lost the first game and wanted a rematch but in the end we both wagered all our points and noboday won the 2nd game. but the girls still had "Victory" in our minds, which made the boys cry like little babies and then they all ran away. THE END

Anyways we had a lot of fun and I'm really glad that we all had fun together with our good friends from here and our good friends from there.

The next time we see LeManda on the 17th, they'll be sealed together for all time and eternity in the Seattte WA temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Personally I'm just looking forward to going to Claim Jumper afterwards. I LOVE that place!

Plug to Dan: Okay so now that this blog has ended, I would like to dedicate it to my wonderful husband Daniel Price. Words cannot express just how lucky I feel to have found him. He is my best friend that will be with me forever. I love him too much that I just wish there were words to describe it. Maybe i'll just have to make up words like Doug Heffernan. For example: Daniel to me your a "BILGISTIC pile of love meat". (now I will make up my own word) Dan, I love you a GATILLIONIZERAMMA times more than you can possibly imagine.........and that says a lot! You are more caring and considerate than I could've ever dreamed you would be. I always say to him how I'm amazed at how much he puts up with, being me, but he does and he loves me to no end. How grateful I am that he holds the Priesthood of God that he can heal the pains of my heart in times when I need it most; to hear that Heavenly Father loves me and is aware of my anguish. Dan, I know those horrible nightmares of mine would never come true and I'm so thankful for your patience and understanding as I go through with the ups and downs and the emotional rollercoaster of trying to have a baby the pharmacutical way. Thank you for being more than the husband of my wildest dreams. I love you LOVE!

Now it's really THE END..................but just for today.
